Once the 40 per cent mark is reached — or even as they approach it — developers can insist on investors recommitting to their payments irrespective of how long the project got delayed. * Image Credit: Gulf News archive Dubai: Forty per cent is the new 100 per cent where local developers are concerned, or at least for those of whom who have stalled projects on their books and are now intent on reviving them. In keeping with this knowledge, the developers are brushing off the dust on their project plans and actually starting to award construction contracts. This should become more apparent in the post-Ramadan period as developers rush to meet Land Department and Real Estate Regulatory Agency guidelines that classify whether a project is ‘live' or is permanently grounded. This momentum shifting activity on the part of developers would have an immediate impact on the construction sector, but may not necessarily be the case for property investors in these projects. 'Applicable laws allow a developer to demand payment and enforce the right to be paid at any time, so long as the developer has complied with its obligations,' Shahram Safai, partner at the local law firm of Afridi & Angell, said. Either way, they are looking at a win-win situation. 'Such instances have happened in the recent past and will multiply as developers push their projects closer to the 40 per cent mark,' said Samir Munshi, managing director at Silver Heights, which is into real estate services including investment. 'For the developers, it's a straight equation — build and they have multiple options to earn more money. Scrap the project and they will find themselves liable to meet investor demands on payment returns.' Munshi refers to a project in Dubai Sports City where the developer has got his construction well past the 50 per cent mark. 'However, there is one investor in the project who has paid 45 per cent of his installment who has now been served with a repossession notice. 'The developer has so far not been willing to come to any negotiations with the investor, who is left with no option but to pursue it in the courts. That only adds to his expenses at a time when he can least afford it.' But an investor who feels he is on the right still has some wriggle room. The Land Department will give a hearing to those purchasers to seek reasons on why they have defaulted on their payments. 'Alternatively, if the purchaser believes that the developer has not abided by its obligations, the purchaser may elect to sue the developer in court,' said Safai. The catch 40% mark equation The 40 per cent project milestone is not a process that can be determined arbitrarily by the developer. It is determined by the Land Department and engineering consultants appointed by it, which should assure investors their side of the story will be held as well. 'It is the percentage of the total project that is completed and not just the number of floors [in a high-rise],' said Shahram Safai at Afridi & Angell. The applicable laws (for example, Decree 6 of 2010) require that notice of demand for payment be sent by the developer to the purchaser with a copy to the Land Department. If the purchaser still fails to pay within 30 days of such notice the developer may exercise his rights under law. Follow (3 of 9) As the earth recedes behind them, the astronauts will separate their spacecraft from the S-4B, move about 50 ft. Ahead of it, and then turn to face it. During this maneuver, protective panels will be jettisoned from the S-4B, exposing the dummy lunar module (LM) carried in its nose. Alone in space, the Apollo craft will continue coasting in powerless flight through the final leg of the moon trip, its velocity gradually decreasing as the earth's gravity attempts to pull it back. TV Spectaculars Some 30,000 miles from the lunar surface, Apollo will have slowed to a space-age snail's pace2,170 m.p.h. At this point, lunar gravity will overcome the earth's diminishing pull, and the spacecraft will begin accelerating once more. Ahead, the moon will loom ever larger in the spacecraft windows. By the time Apollo curves around the western edge of the moon, its speed will have risen to 5,720 m.p.h. Without any additional thrust, Apollo's own momentum and the weak lunar gravity would combine to carry it around the moon and fling it back toward earth in a spatial version of crack-the-whip. Indeed, if a recheck of systems and equipment convinces ground controllers and the astronauts that serious problems have developed, the crew will merely continue in this new course and travel back to earth. But if everything seems all right, Apollo's powerful SPS (service propulsion system) engine will be fired for 246 sec. To slow the spacecraft and allow it to be pulled by the moon into a 70-by 196-mile elliptical lunar orbit. Two revolutions later, a brief 10-sec. Burn will change the path to a 70-mi.-high circular orbit. Traveling at 3,640 m.p.h., Apollo will circle the moon once every two hours. For 45 nerve-racking minutes during every revolutionwhen it is behind the moon and blocked from radio communication with the earthit will be out of touch with ground controllers. During their lunar orbiting, the astronauts will take turns shooting still, motion and stereo pictures in color and black-and-white. They will study craters and ridges to see how easily they can be recognized as landmarks. They will plot their position for navigational fixes that will be useful for lunar-landing crews on later missions. On the seventh revolution, they will be able to survey a prime LM landing site at a time when illumination is ideal for observation: the sun will be 6.6° above the horizon, casting the long shadows that best bring out distinctive surface features. During lunar orbit, and on both the outgoing and return legs of the mission, the astronauts will shoot television pictures of the moon and the earth and transmit them back to ground stations as Christmastime TV spectaculars. Dan saat ini, sejumlah analis memperkirakan budget kemiliteran tersebut telah hampir mencapai 160 milyar dollar. Presiden China Hu Jin Tao menyatakan bahwa saat ini Tentara Pembebasan Rakyat China tengah mengemban misi bersejarah baru diabad 21. Dari tugas menjaga kedaulatan Negara China menjadi tentara berkekuatan global agar dapat menjadi negara super power sejati. Dalam beberapa kejadian yang lalu kehadiran tentara China memang dapat berjalan seiring dengan militer Amerika Serikat seperti pada saat China bergabung dalam patroli anti bajak laut di laut Somalia. Tetapi sejumlah analis mengkhawatirkan jika suatu saat kedua kekuatan tersebut bertemu di suatu kondisi dengan tujuan yang saling beseberangan. Maka yang terjadi akan sangat riskan karena kedua negara tersebut sama-sama memiliki teknologi militer yang terbaik dewasa ini. Pejabat pemerintahan Amerika Serikat tidak hanya menghawatirkan besarnya budget militer China, tetapi juga adanya kenyataan bahwa militer China saat ini memiliki kemampuan teknologi militer yang hampir setaraf dengan Amerika Serikat. Sebagai contoh, selama ini Amerika berpendapat bahwa pesawat tempur F-22 dan F-35 adalah pesawat-pesawat tempur generasi kelima yang hanya dimiliki Amerika Serikat saja (kedua jenis pesawat ini adalah pesawat-pesawat yang memiliki kemampuan anti terlacak radar, berkemampuan mesin dan sistim kontrol penerbangan yang terhebat, serta memiliki sistem komputer jaringan khusus). Tetapi, pada tahun 2011, saat menteri pertahanan Amerika Serikat Robert Gates berkunjung ke China, Presiden China Hu Jin Tao menyambutnya dengan menampilkan pertunjukan penerbangan pesawat tempur J-20 di atas kota Cheng Du (Ini baru satu jenis pesawat anti radar yang tidak dirahasiakan, bagaimana dengan yang lain?). China juga kini aktif mengembangkan pesawat tanpa awak (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). Contohnya pesawat Yilong I (Pterodactyl) dan BZK-005 yang keduanya memiliki spesifikasi persis dengan Predator dan Global Hawk milik militer Amerika Serikat. Sebelum kedua pesawat ini diperkenalkan, China juga tercatat memiliki pesawat tanpa awak yang oleh pihak barat dijuluki sebagai Dark Sword. Dark Sword ini pertama kali terdeteksi pihak barat pada tahun 2006 yang lalu dan diperkirakan mampu melakukan perjalanan tanpa awaknya jauh dari wilayah China. Dan untuk mendukung kekuatan pesawat tempur mereka, musim panas yang lalu pemerintah China telah mengumumkan pembangunan 11 pangkalan udara baru di sepanjang pantai China. Sebagai tambahan, jika sebelumnya hanya Amerika Serikat yang memiliki kemampuan untuk mengirimkan kapal induk yang penuh dengan pesawat siap tempur kesetiap penjuru bumi, China kini diketahui telah membeli kapal induk milik mantan Uni Soviet berukuran 65 ribu ton dengan memanfaatkan suatu Travel Agen palsu sebagai perusahaan pembelinya. Kapal induk tersebut diketahui kini telah dilengkapi dengan mesin dan persenjataan baru termasuk dalam hal ini sejumlah rudal permukaan ke udara yang oleh pihak barat dijuluki Flying Leopard (Singa Terbang) dan sistem pertahanan udara otomatis. Kapal induk tersebut kini bernama Liao Ning mampu mengangkut 50 unit pesawat jet tempur Shen Yang J-15 'Flying Shark' (Hiu Terbang). Jet tempur ini berkemampuan sebanding dengan Jet Tempur Amerika Serikat jenis F-18. Dan sebagai perkembangan teknologi untuk Angkatan Darat China, pemerintah China kini juga telah memiliki sejumlah rudal jarak jauh yang berkode DF-21D. Rudal ini dapat diluncurkan dari truk khusus, sehingga dapat dimobilisasi dengan cepat. Pihak barat menjulukinya sebagai Carrier Killer. Disamping itu, secara rahasia, China diketahui tengah menyiapkan sejumlah kapal perusak anti deteksi radar yang masing-masing berukuran 8 ribu ton dan sejumlah kapal selam nuklir serta sejumlah kapal peluncur kendaraan amphibi. Kabar terbaru menyatakan bahwa China baru saja meluncurkan kapal penjelajah baru berukuran 36 ribu ton bernama Bahai Sea Green Pearl yang mampu mengangkut 2 ribu prajurit beserta 300 kendaraan tempurnya. Dalam hal ini China menyatakan bahwa kini mereka siap mendukung misi keamanan PBB meskipun pasukan mereka harus berada di pedalaman Afrika atau Amerika Selatan. Perlu diketahui bahwa hingga saat ini, sistem informasi militer dan pemerintahan Amerika Serikat 80% mengandalkan satelit dan GPS. Sementara itu, China diketahui tengah mengembangkan sejumlah satelit mikro yang mampu bertindak sebagai pesawat 'kamikaze' sehingga mampu merontokkan satelit manapun yang dipandang sebagai bahaya bagi China dengan cara menabrakkan diri ke satelit lawan. Disamping itu di permukaan bumi pun China tengah mengembangkan sejumlah senjata laser yang dapat melelehkan satelit manapun yang dianggap sebagai musuh yang melintas di wilayah udara China. Kolonel Senior Yao Yun Zhu dari Chinese Academy of Military Science menyatakan bahwa kini Amerika Serikat bukanlah satu-satunya negara dengan kekuatan super power di ruang angkasa. China tengah menyiapkan pengiriman lebih dari 100 satelit militer dan sipil dalam dekade ini dengan menggunakan pesawat ruang angkasa pengirim tanpa awak dan dapat dipakai ulang. Pesawat ruang angkasa tersebut bernama Shen Long. Dalam hal perang 'Cyber', China juga mengembangkan suatu sistem yang disebut sebagai Informationized Warfare (Peralatan Perang Sistem Informasi). Jika Amerika Serikat memiliki Cyber Command, China kini tengah melatih sejumlah 130.000 personil untuk perang sistem informasi. Sementara itu, minggu lalu, Angkatan Laut Amerika Serikat telah selesai melaksanakan uji penempatan pesawat X-47B di kapal induk bertenaga nuklir kelas Nimitz USS Harry S Truman. X-47B adalah pesawat jet tempur tanpa awak (Unmanned Combat Air System / UCAS) buatan Northrop Grumman Amerika Serikat. Uji coba ini dimulai tanggal 26 November 2012 yang lalu. Dalam uji coba kali ini masih belum meliputi tes lepas landas dan mendarat di kapal induk tersebut. Uji coba kali ini antara lain bertujuan melakukan pengetesan tata cara pengangkutan dan penempatan pesawat khusus ini di kapal induk, penarikan di geladak dengan traktor pemindah, pengarahan posisi dengan kontrol operator menggunakan katrol, dan pengetesan sistem digital mesinnya dalam area yang dipenuhi gelombang elektromagnet. Kembali ke pembahasan teknologi militer China dan Amerika Serikat, kedua negara ini sama-sama memiliki persenjataan nuklir. Tetapi kedua belah pihak diperkirakan tak akan menggunakan itu semua karena kedua belah pihak sama-sama mengetahui bahwa penggunaan senjata nuklir adalah sama saja dengan bunuh diri, mengingat efek senjata nuklir tidak hanya menghancurkan lawan tetapi radiasinya juga dapat menghantam diri sendiri dan pihak lain yang tidak terlibat. Dan hingga saat ini, tak satupun negara di dunia ini memiliki kesiapan cukup untuk menghadapi perang nuklir. Walau pun semua negara pemilik senjata nuklir juga telah membangun bunker-bunker tahan radiasi nuklir, tak satu pun bunker-bunker tersebut terjamin 100% aman dari radiasi radio aktif. Dan bunker-bunker tersebut juga tak akan mampu menampung semua warga negara pemilik senjata-senjata nuklir tersebut. Sehingga, justru yang menjadi kekhawatiran Amerika Serikat adalah persenjataan-persenjataan non nuklir pihak China. Memang saat ini Amerika Serikat dan China terikat dalam banyak kesepakatan perdagangan dan investasi. Tetapi seperti di uraikan sebelumnya, akan selalu ada kemungkinan kedua pihak ini dapat memiliki kepentingan yang saling berseberangan, dan ini bersifat sangat riskan meskipun kedua pemerintahan menyatakan bahwa perselisihan yang mungkin terjadi antar dua negara akan menimbulkan efek merugikan yang sangat besar bagi kedua belah pihak sehingga mereka akan selalu berusaha menghindari konfrontasi langsung. Mungkin itu juga sebabnya saat sejumlah laporan intelijen menunjukkan bahwa pesawat mata-mata Iran RQ-170 yang jatuh di perbatasan Iran baru-baru ini ternyata dibuat dengan bekerjasama dengan sejumlah ilmuwan China, pemerintah Amerika Serikat memilih untuk tidak banyak berkomentar. Memang dalam banyak hal Amerika Serikat perlu sangat berhati-hati dalam menghadapi China. Karena, berbeda dengan Uni Soviet dulu yang merupakan gabungan dari banyak negara-negara komunis yang 'terpaksa' bersatu dalam Persatuan Soviet dan terdiri dari banyak ras suku bangsa sehingga relatif mudah dipecah-belah. China sejak zaman dahulu adalah negeri tunggal yang secara ras cukup homogen. Selain itu, di Amerika Serikat sendiri sejak zaman koboy sudah banyak orang-orang keturunan China yang sulit dibedakan mana yang keturunan China Sosialis dan mana yang Kapitalis. Sejumlah ahli astronomi dari University of Hertfordshire yang dipimpin oleh Mikko Tuomy berhasil menemukan planet yang mungkin memiliki kondisi seperti Bumi, yang berarti juga mungkin terdapat kehidupan di planet tersebut (exoplanet). Penemuan tersebut diperoleh setelah Mikko dan para anggota tim peneliti tersebut melakukan lebih dari 6.000 kali pengamatan kearah bintang Tau Ceti. Dengan menggunakan metode analisa yang disebut dengan istilah Bayesian Analysis Methods, mereka mendapatkan kesimpulan bahwa bintang Tau Ceti memiliki 5 planet yang mengorbit di sekeliling bintang tersebut dengan jarak lebih dekat dari pada jarak orbit Mars ke Matahari. Pemilihan bintang Tau Ceti sebagai fokus pengamatan tim ini berawal dari proyek Ozma pada tahun 1960 yang bertujuan mencari kemungkinan adanya kehidupan di luar planet Bumi. Bintang Tau Ceti saat itu dipilih karena memiliki kekuatan pancaran sinar yang mirip dengan kekuatan pancaran sinar Matahari. Bintang Tau Ceti merupakan bintang terdekat ke Matahari diurutan keduapuluh, dengan jarak kira-kira 11,9 tahun cahaya dari Matahari. Tau Ceti tergolong dalam bintang kelas G, dengan massa sebesar 0,78 dari massa Matahari, dan luminosity lebih kurang separuh dari Matahari. Diperkirakan usia bintang ini satu milyar tahun lebih tua dari pada Matahari. Dan kondisinya sangat stabil, lebih stabil daripada Matahari. Berdasar penelitian Mikko dan kawan-kawan, diperoleh data sebagai berikut: Planet Radius Orbit Periode Orbit Massa dibanding Bumi Tc b 0,105 14 hari 2,0 kali Tc c 0,195 35 hari 3,1 kali Tc d 0,374 94 hari 3,6 kali Tc e 0,552 168 hari 4,3 kali Tc f 1,35 642 hari 6,6 kali Kelima planet tersebut memiliki orbit membentuk lingkaran hampir sempurna mengelilingi bintang Tau Ceti. Selain berbeda dalam hal ukuran bintang dan planet, Tau Ceti diperkirakan tidak memiliki unsur logam sama sekali sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa planet-planet yang mengelilinginya diperkirakan tidak mengandung karang. Bahkan mungkin berupa planet air. Bintang Tau Ceti memiliki tingkat kecerahan sinar hanya 55% dari Matahari, sehingga kemungkinan diantara kelima planet tesebut, planet yang mungkin mengandung kehidupan berjarak lebih dekat ke Tau Ceti jika dibandingkan jarak Bumi ke Matahari. Jarak orbit Tc b dan Tc c terlalu dekat ke bintang Tau ceti dan jarak orbit planet Tc d kira-kira sebanding dengan pertengahan jarak orbit Venus dan Merkurius terhadap Matahari. Sehingga tidak mungkin bisa ditemukan kehidupan di sana. Jarak yang ideal sesuai dengan kecerahan Tau Ceti adalah jarak Tc e terhadap Tau Ceti. Dalam jarak tersebut dimungkinkan adanya air, walaupun mungkin sedikit lebih dingin daripada air Bumi. Sementara itu Laboratorium Penenelitian Planet Berhabitat di Puerto Rico menambahkan catatan bahwa kemungkinan planet Tc e dan Tc f memiliki kehidupan mengingat lapisan atmosfir dikedua planet tersebut diperkirakan tidak terlalu tebal sehingga memungkinkan kedua planet tersebut lebih hangat daripada semestinya. Industri mobil, industri rekayasa mesin (ibu dari industri lain), sampai industri pesawat jet (yang membutuhkan presisi tinggi) saat ini tengah berbondong-bondong untuk saling mendahului dalam penguasaan teknologi ini. Bagaimana tidak, jika berhasil menjadi master di bidang ini, siapapun akan mampu meningkatkan profitabilitas dan skalabilitas bisnisnya dengan sangat cepat, tidak lagi tahunan, namun bisa dalam hitungan bulan. Morris Technologies menggunakan sejumlah mesin cetak 3D, yang semuanya bekerja dengan menggunakan deskripsi digital dari suatu obyek untuk dapat membangun dalam bentuk fisiknya, selapis demi selapis. Di antara teknologi cetak 3D yang digunakan oleh Morris Technologies adalah laser sintering. Tekniknya dengan cara menyebarkan lapisan tipis serbuk logam ke platform pembangun dan kemudian mengeringkan bahan dengan sinar laser. Proses ini diulang sampai obyek muncul. Sintering Laser mampu memproduksi segala macam bagian logam, termasuk komponen yang terbuat dari aerospace-grade titanium. Teknologi yang telah cukup matang ini lebih menghemat bahan (karena pendekatannya terbalik dengan produksi komponen konvensional) sekaligus, karena itu, bisa menghemat energi. Sejumlah peneliti material dari North Carolina State University, USA, saat ini tengah mengembangkan suatu bahan campuran baru yang dapat digunakan sebagai penghantar aliran listrik (kabel) yang dapat ditarik melar hingga 8 kali lipat ukuran awalnya. Meskipun hingga kini bahan tersebut masih dalam tahap uji coba, tetapi sejumlah hasil penelitian mereka mengungkapkan bahwa kondisi tersebut telah berhasil dicapai. Seperti yang sudah lama diketahui, cahaya laser adalah cahaya yang pola gelombangnya bersifat seragam yang terdiri dari berkas-berkas sinar yang berukuran lebih halus dan secara normal hanya bisa terpancar secara lurus, namun sudah sejak beberapa lama para ahli mengetahui bahwa pola superimpos pada laser dapat membuat laser tersebut berbelok. Pola tersebut dapat di disain dengan cara tertentu sehingga sejumlah garis pancaran cahaya yang menyusun sebuah sorotan laser dapat saling mempengaruhi satu sama lain sehingga tembakan laser tersebut berbelok. 'Tetapi belokan tersebut tidak dapat membentuk sudut lebih dari 10 derajat, karena jika sudut belokan tersebut lebih dari 10 derajat maka cahaya terbut akan terdistorsi dan bentuknya berubah', demikian menurut Mordechai Sergev dari Technion-Israel Institute of Technology di Haifa. Dia bersama sejumlah rekannya sedang terus berusaha meneliti lebih jauh tentang hal ini dengan mempelajari Maxwell's Equations yang merupakan hukum dasar tingkah laku gelombang elektromagnetik. Secara perhitungan teoritik, mereka menyimpulkan bahwa adalah sangat mungkin untuk membuat pola dasar agar dapat membelokkan cahaya laser lebih dari 180 derajat tanpa terjadi distorsi. Hasil ini telah dipublikasikan di Physical Review Letter dengan nomer dokumentasi DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.108.163901. Tetapi ini masih berupa teori. Tetapi baru-baru ini sebuah tim mahasiswa peneliti dari Chinese University di Hongkong telah menemukan fakta lain dari bakteri ini, yaitu dapat digunakan sebagai alat untuk menyimpan data informasi. Tim peneliti tersebut berhasil menemukan cara untuk meng-enkripsi-kan dan menyimpan data dalam DNA bakteri E.Coli. Satu gram bakteri ini mampu menyimpan informasi hingga 4.502.000 Gigabyte dalam DNA mereka. Unless you're a serious graphic artist, or unless this app is something that your company can purchase for you, this isn't something a regular user will purchase. Hair module in release 11 of Cinema 4D is an excellent innovation. Using this module, we can create beautiful green grass, which looks amazingly real. The image shown below bears it out. In this tutorial, we will learn how to create this grass with blue sky interspersed with clear clouds. We will also see how to place the grass on the soil with the soil looking like real soil. All this is very simple, thanks to the creators of Cinema 4D. I have done this tutorial in release 11. You can do this tutorial in any other version provided it ships with hair module. Here we go: 1. Open cinema 4D, go the primitive objects, select plane primitive and enter the following parameters in the object properties: Width: 2000 Height: 2000 Width Segment: 2 Height Segment: 2 Your screenshot should look like this: 2. Name the plane as Soil (to do so, double-click plane in the object manager in the upper right hand corner and type soil). Now we will give the soil color to the object soil. Go to material menu (bottom), click file, and click new material. This will open material dialog, as shown below: 3. Double-click the material dialog to open material editor. Check and select color dialog in the editor and click on the default white color, which will open the color picker dialog. Using color slider, make the color brownish and click ok. Uncheck specular in the color dialog to remove any shininess from the material because we don’t want the soil to shine. The screenshot of the material editor is given below: 4. By default, the name of the material you created will be Mat. Click it and rename it as soil material. Select the soil material and drag it all the way to object manager and drop it on soil object. The soil should now turn brownish. Having created soil for the grass to grow, we shall now create sky, which is done in two simple steps. Go to the upper horizontal menu, click the menu showing light object, select sky. There are other ways to create more complex sky, but we will keep it simple for the while. Go back to the material manager; create new material, open material editor to create clouds in the sky. Click color and in the color dialog, click texture tab and select surfaces>clouds. Rename the new material as sky material and drag and drop it into sky in the object manager. Render the scene to view the soil and sky. It should now look like this: 9. We’ll now proceed to create grass on the soil. Click hair module in the main menu and select add hair. In the object manager, drag and drop hair into the soil object thus making hair child of the soil. Render the scene. It will look like this: 10. By default, the hair color is brown. But we want it green because we are creating grass. In the material manager, click hair material, which will open the material editor for the hair. Click color>texture tab>create new texture. It will open the color picker. Choose green color in the picker, uncheck specular and close the editor. Render the scene again, and now the grass is looking green. If your scene looks like the screenshot above, you’ll notice that the number of grass blades is fewer. You can make them denser if you want. In the object manager click hair which will give you a number of parameters in attributes manager. Click the tab named Hairs and in field called count, increase the count to 25000. Render the scene and you’ll find the blades much denser than before. However, the blades are unnaturally straight in the above screenshot. Realistic grass has blades bent randomly, hasn’t it? Double-click the hair material in the material manager to open the hair material editor. Check the option called “frizz” in the editor. Let frizz parameters be at default value. Close the material editor and render the scene. Voila you have created perfect grass!! One more issue. The realistic grass is not fully green. It often has its tips slightly yellowish due to the direct exposure to the Sun. In order to make its tips appear slightly yellowish, do the following. Click the hair material in material manager once. In the attributes manager, click the tab called “tips” and uncheck the option “as roots”. Click texture>create new texture, which will open the color picker and make the color yellowish. Render the scene again. You’ll now find that grass now has a mix of green and yellow, green at the bottom and yellow at the tips. Pan, dolly and magnify the scene, and you will have a field of grass extending up to horizon. Show it to your friends and tell them it’s your latest with brand new canon camera. They will believe it!!! That’s the power of Cinema 4D. To save the scene, do the following: 21. From the main menu, choose render>render setting 22. Click the tab named “general” and choose full render. Price: Free/donations We all love blowing things up and watching the pieces fall dynamically to the floor and there are many plugins out there that do this, but is probably the most fully-featured. With Voronoi breaking, vertex map breaking and a special mode for transparent objects (so the cracks appear only at the breaking time) this is already good enough. Add into that bomb mode and deep-break and it becomes a must-have plugin. Deep break alone is worth investigating. It allows you to break geometry, the pieces of which can be set to automatically break again on impact with another object. This is something none of the other destruction plugins do and adds hugely to it's appeal. Price: €40 donation Motionworks, developer of is new on the scene. In fact, it's only been out a week or two at the time of posting, but it's already caused a bit of a storm. Essentially this is a huge library of preset text animations (over 250), materials and motion graphic backgrounds. As well as being a massive timesaver it can also be a great source of inspiration. AutoRename is a simple plugin for Cinema 4D. It arose from a request on CG Talk for a COFFEE script to rename a group of objects which all had the same name. (Compatible for CINEMA 4D 9.5 upwards) What it does is generate an arrow shape in the form of a spline primitive. The shape itself can be extensively customised to produce a variety of different arrows, then used (for example) in an Extrude or Sweep NURBS to generate a mesh. You will see right away that the opposite side of your model is created without having to lift a finger. This is a useful modeling plugin for character modeling and all other modeling styles. Hair module in release 11 of Cinema 4D is an excellent innovation. Using this module, we can create beautiful green grass, which looks amazingly real. The image shown below bears it out. In this tutorial, we will learn how to create this grass with blue sky interspersed with clear clouds. We will also see how to place the grass on the soil with the soil looking like real soil. All this is very simple, thanks to the creators of Cinema 4D. I have done this tutorial in release 11. You can do this tutorial in any other version provided it ships with hair module. Here we go: 1. Open cinema 4D, go the primitive objects, select plane primitive and enter the following parameters in the object properties: Width: 2000 Height: 2000 Width Segment: 2 Height Segment: 2 Your screenshot should look like this: 2. Name the plane as Soil (to do so, double-click plane in the object manager in the upper right hand corner and type soil). Now we will give the soil color to the object soil. Go to material menu (bottom), click file, and click new material. This will open material dialog, as shown below: 3. Double-click the material dialog to open material editor. Check and select color dialog in the editor and click on the default white color, which will open the color picker dialog. Using color slider, make the color brownish and click ok. Uncheck specular in the color dialog to remove any shininess from the material because we don’t want the soil to shine. The screenshot of the material editor is given below: 4. By default, the name of the material you created will be Mat. Click it and rename it as soil material. Select the soil material and drag it all the way to object manager and drop it on soil object. The soil should now turn brownish. Having created soil for the grass to grow, we shall now create sky, which is done in two simple steps. Go to the upper horizontal menu, click the menu showing light object, select sky. There are other ways to create more complex sky, but we will keep it simple for the while. Go back to the material manager; create new material, open material editor to create clouds in the sky. Click color and in the color dialog, click texture tab and select surfaces>clouds. Rename the new material as sky material and drag and drop it into sky in the object manager. Render the scene to view the soil and sky. It should now look like this: 9. We’ll now proceed to create grass on the soil. Click hair module in the main menu and select add hair. In the object manager, drag and drop hair into the soil object thus making hair child of the soil. Render the scene. It will look like this: 10. By default, the hair color is brown. But we want it green because we are creating grass. In the material manager, click hair material, which will open the material editor for the hair. Click color>texture tab>create new texture. It will open the color picker. Choose green color in the picker, uncheck specular and close the editor. Render the scene again, and now the grass is looking green. If your scene looks like the screenshot above, you’ll notice that the number of grass blades is fewer. You can make them denser if you want. In the object manager click hair which will give you a number of parameters in attributes manager. Click the tab named Hairs and in field called count, increase the count to 25000. Render the scene and you’ll find the blades much denser than before. However, the blades are unnaturally straight in the above screenshot. Realistic grass has blades bent randomly, hasn’t it? Double-click the hair material in the material manager to open the hair material editor. Check the option called “frizz” in the editor. Let frizz parameters be at default value. Close the material editor and render the scene. Voila you have created perfect grass!! One more issue. The realistic grass is not fully green. It often has its tips slightly yellowish due to the direct exposure to the Sun. In order to make its tips appear slightly yellowish, do the following. Click the hair material in material manager once. In the attributes manager, click the tab called “tips” and uncheck the option “as roots”. Click texture>create new texture, which will open the color picker and make the color yellowish. Render the scene again. You’ll now find that grass now has a mix of green and yellow, green at the bottom and yellow at the tips. Pan, dolly and magnify the scene, and you will have a field of grass extending up to horizon. Show it to your friends and tell them it’s your latest with brand new canon camera. They will believe it!!! That’s the power of Cinema 4D. To save the scene, do the following: 21. From the main menu, choose render>render setting 22. Click the tab named “general” and choose full render. Click the tab named “output” and choose the following parameters: Width: 800 Height: 600 Resolution: 300 Frame range: current frame Let other parameters be unchanged. Click the tab named “save” and click the tab called path, which will open the path to your hard drive where you have to save the file. Name it realistic grass and click save. Make you change the format to BMP or JPEG. Click the tab named “anti-aliasing” and in the drop-down-menu, choose “best”. In the filter field, choose “still image”. Close the render setting dialog, go back to render menu, choose “render to picture viewer”. Cinema 4D will render the scene. Mark it: you need to have a faster machine to get faster render of such scenes. I use PC with core2duo processor, 2gb ram, nvidia multimedia display card and 250gb hard drive. It works well.
